Looking forward to shutting down my DirecTV since it also in a competing Wi-Fi system. (only had 8 minutes total outage time in last 24 hrs) and hardly noticed except when unlucky to submit a trade when needed.Īfter all this, I'm getting between 120 - 270Mbps second on main floor of the house and 50 -120 in my flight sim/ safe room (considering the signal travels through hardwood/subfloor/dirt/ concrete) and I can live with that for now until I can route a direct ethernet cable from FS room to Starlink modem.īonus I'm getting 30-50Mbps on my boat dock about 100 feet behind the house!! Will bring it back online as needed during Starlink beta and discontinue after Starlink is totally solid. You folks are amazing!!ġ) relocated the Starlink router to a central location in the house away from outside walls and windows and away from the wife's computer.ģ) temporarily shutdown my ATT router. I've taken all the suggestions and I'm very happy. Rebooting may allow the Starlink router to claim different WiFi channels (or maybe not, with no config options, we can't be sure).įolks. I'd reboot the Starlink router after disabling the ATT router. You could temporarily shut off the ATT router and the WiFi extender to see if performance improves. Ditch the ATT router (your needs may require dual ISPs for now, so that might not work yet).If you need more APs in the house for better coverage, run Ethernet to the basement and add a second AP (run off of the Aux port on the Starlink router, or get more elaborate as your needs require).(already mentioned, the reasons are Wires > WiFi, your flight sim is probably a PC, not a laptop, so it doesn't need the mobility, fixes the issues with trying to punch WiFi through thick walls). Ditch the WiFi extender (someone already said that, but seriously, those are great if you have crappy DSL but want to get a reliable WiFi signal for grandma's kindle at the far end of a large house, for decent bandwidth, forget about it).will have much more impact on the signal strength than open air. Walls, floors, wiring, concrete, rebar, plumbing, insulation, etc. If your SL router is 20 feet away and the ATT router is 50 or even 100 feet away, the difference in distance is insignificant. A WiFi extender is two *more* WiFi devices back to back. ![]() Two WiFi routers means two routers competing for WiFi bandwidth. The ceiling of your saferoom is probably much more substantial than the rest of the ceilings in that area, depending on how well it was designed, and what the threat model was. Concrete (and metal rebar) will attenuate the signal (so will the floor). ![]() For official Starlink news and information, please visit Īs you're seeing, WiFi doesn't go through everything.
